2nd August 2025 Poppies For Southend Pier

Earlyer this year Southend Pier put out a request for hand knitted or crocheted Poppies.

They wanted to line the piers 1.33 mile length from 5th to 16th November 2025 as a rememberance tribute.

They made knitted or crochet patterns available and was hoping for 35000 to be made and donated.

At the end of September deadline 86000 had been made, which they estimate will go up and back down the pier!

On 2nd August Robyn and Jan from Rugby Herritage Lions went to the pier to donate 80 Poppies. Well done to you both.

We look forward to seeing it all finished.

Special Needs Sports Day July 26th 2024

The Lions Club of East Anglia Lioness are happy to support this great annual Lions event - The Lions Special Needs Sports Day in Thundersley Essex.

It's a collaboration of South Essex Lions clubs organising it but so many more from our District support it on the day, with local Rotary getting involved too.

Lions provide everything: venue, sports equipment, medals and even a packed lunch! It is a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

Events were outside on the field and playground, as well as inside the hall, followed by a Disco and Raffle.

There was 120 competitors from 7 Special Needs clubs!

Not 1, but 3 local Mayors and a local MP helped with the prize giving of medals and the overall trophy.

Robyn, Rick, Sandie and Tony helped out.

Sandie and Tony were stationed on table cricket and counted each participants runs when they hit the ball with a miniature cricket bat

Robyn helped make and serve lunch, whilst Rick loaded, unloaded and droved the van, Rick also helped on the Shot Put event.
