Please find below two patterns for Knitting Poppies for Remembrance Day.
Actual size will depend on your wool and which size needles you use.
PATTERN ONE
Using Red, Cast on 48 Stitches
Rib – K2, P2 for 6 rows
Row 7 – K2 tog across the whole row
Repeat row 7 until you are left with 6 Stitches
Cut a long thread and pull through the 6 Stitches. Pull tight and sew the two sides together using mattress stitch (this will make a flat seam)
CENTRE – using Black
Cast on 12 to 14 stiches (depending on thickness of wool and size of needles
Cast off. Pull one end through the band and it should curl round. Sew this round into the centre of the poppy. Leave a tail of wool to attach a safety pin to the back.
PATTERN TWO
(Makes a larger poppy)
Using Red, cast on 60 stitches
K2, P2 across the row – 10 rows
Row 11 – K2 tog across the whole row
Row 12 – Sl1, K2 tog, Slip st over – across the whole row
Cut thread and pull through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and sew the two sides together using mattress stitch (this will make a flat seam).
CENTRE – using Black
Cast on 14 to 16 stiches (depending on thickness of wool and size of needles
Cast off. Pull one end through the band and it should curl round. Sew this round into the centre of the poppy. Leave a tail of wool to attach a safety pin to the back.
